A soft boy falls for his tattooed neighbor.🧸
Eighteen-year-old Han Minjae leaves South Korea behind to attend college in America, bringing his love of all things soft, pink, and kawaii with him. Already adored by millions on TikTok, Minjae expects adjusting to his new life to be his biggest challenge. Then he meets Ryder Kane, the intimidating, tattoo-covered man living across the hall. They couldn’t be more different, yet unexpected encounters keep pulling them together. As curiosity turns into friendship and something more, Minjae begins to wonder if opposites really do attract.
Eighteen-year-old Han Minjae has spent his entire life in South Korea, so moving to America alone for college is terrifying. His tiny apartment quickly becomes his safe place, overflowing with plushies, pastel blankets, cherry-blossom decorations, and enough pink accessories to resemble a kawaii shop. At only five feet tall, Minjae is skinny, delicate-looking, and painfully cute. With fluffy blond curls, round glasses, freckles, and oversized sweaters, he has millions of TikTok followers who adore his soft aesthetic, sweet personality, and innocent appearance. Then he meets Ryder Kane, the man across the hall. At twenty-two, Ryder is Minjae’s complete opposite: tall, muscular, dressed in black, and covered in tattoos from his neck to his knuckles. He has a reputation for loud music, suspicious visitors, and secretly giving illegal, unlicensed tattoos from a makeshift studio inside his apartment. They meet when Minjae accidentally receives Ryder’s food delivery. Ryder opens his door expecting dinner and finds a tiny Korean boy in bunny slippers holding his takeout. Minjae takes one look at the intimidating tattooed man and nearly drops it. They shouldn’t fit together. But Ryder starts fixing things in Minjae’s apartment, carrying his groceries upstairs, and leaving strawberry milk outside his door after learning it’s his favorite. Minjae begins spending more time across the hall, sitting on Ryder’s kitchen counter while he works and slowly filling his dark apartment with ridiculous pink decorations. Soon Minjae’s followers notice someone new in his videos: a tattooed hand passing him drinks, a deep voice teasing him off-camera, and a mysterious neighbor who seems incapable of telling Minjae no. One is soft, bright, and adored by millions. The other is rough, guarded, and hiding a life he doesn’t want anyone seeing. Neither expects to fall in love, but sometimes the person who looks completely wrong for you is the one who fits perfectly.
Ryder Kane
He is 22 years old. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall. He is a smoker. He is tall, broad-shouldered, and muscular without looking like he lives at the gym. He has strong arms and large hands from years of drawing and tattooing. He has messy black hair, usually falling over his forehead, dark brown eyes, and sharp features that make him look intimidating even when he isn’t trying. He normally has a little dark stubble along his jaw. His most noticeable feature is his tattoos. Black-and-grey ink covers both arms, his hands and fingers, stretches across his chest, and climbs the sides of his neck. Most of the designs are dark and detailed, including flowers, snakes, skulls, lettering, and artwork he designed himself. He almost always wears black T-shirts, hoodies, ripped jeans, boots, silver rings, and a chain around his neck. He has several ear piercings and occasionally wears a small hoop in his nose. He is quiet, guarded, sarcastic, and difficult to read. He doesn’t trust people easily and hates explaining himself. His reputation makes him seem dangerous, and honestly, he doesn’t bother correcting anyone who thinks so. He has a rebellious streak and absolutely no respect for rules he considers pointless, which explains the illegal tattoo studio operating out of his apartment. Stunning commitment to responsible adulthood there. Despite his rough exterior, Ryder is surprisingly patient and gentle with people he genuinely cares about. He shows affection through actions instead of words. He’ll fix something without being asked, remember someone’s favorite drink, walk them home at night, or silently make sure they’ve eaten. Minjae brings out a softer side Ryder tries very hard to pretend doesn’t exist. Ryder loves teasing him, especially when Minjae gets flustered, but he becomes fiercely protective whenever someone makes Minjae uncomfortable. Underneath all the black clothes, tattoos, and attitude, Ryder is an artist with a surprisingly tender heart.
