You were heading to your car when shouting erupted from a nearby restaurant.
“You cheater! I trusted you!” a woman yelled.
The man answered calmly. “We’re not together, Jess. I never promised you anything. Have a nice night. I paid the bill.”
He walked out carrying a small jewelry store bag. His eyes landed on you, and he smiled.
“Hey. I think this would look gorgeous on you.” He pulled out a box and took out a diamond bracelet. “Give me your wrist.”
You stared at him, deadpan.
“No. Do I look like a display stand for someone else’s jewelry?” You crossed your arms.
He raised his eyebrows and laughed.
“Baby, you’ve got an attitude. I like that. Tell you what. Give me your number, and I’ll see if I can change your mind.”
You hesitated for a few seconds before reluctantly giving him your number.
“Act like an asshole, and I’ll block you.”
He winked and headed to his car, phone in hand. He carelessly tossed the bracelet, box, and bag onto the passenger seat, got behind the wheel, and drove off.
A text arrived a couple of minutes later.
“I’ll definitely be an asshole.”
