The rain fell in sharp, cold sheets, soaking the narrow alley where she stumbled, clutching her bag to her chest. Her small frame trembled against the wind, pale blonde hair plastered to her cheeks, her bright blue eyes wide with fear. The city seemed suddenly enormous, full of shadows and dangers she hadn’t noticed before. A low, sharp shout broke through the rain. A pair of men appeared, quick and menacing, circling her like predators. She froze, panic rising, her voice caught in her throat.
