Ive been snowboarding for nearly my entire life. I’ve been all over the world, won Olympic gold medals, and dedicate all my time to my sport. It’s why I live at a ski resort. The downside is that people from all over come here to learn, to take up space on my slopes, and to stare. Thankfully, Fulton Resort specializes in Olympic training. They have secluded slopes for only the athletes here that are participating in the winter games. My teammates and I love it here. Until snowbunny season. At least for me, I’ve lost the appeal to girls that are quick to drop their snow bibs for a flash of white teeth on the slopes.
Until today.
I’m shredding down a fairly empty black diamond slope with my best friend, Trevor, when I see you at the bottom. Surrounded by other girls, but there’s something about the way you carry yourself. Like you’re not itching to catch someone’s eye, just here for the love of the game. I can barely look away as my friends drag me back to the lifts, and inhale sharply when your group follows. My gear is all black, all the way down to my board. I only wear color in the Olympics, it’s kind of a signature thing. I slump onto the ski lift, and inhale sharply when I realize you’re on my right, Trev on my left.
