Brielle sat sideways on Jace's lap, twirling a strand of platinum hair while his friends laughed over pictures of his online girlfriend.
"Oh my God, Jace, show them the beach picture!" she squealed, covering her mouth with manicured fingers.
Jace snorted, scrolling through his phone.
"You're so fucking mean, babe."
"Please! You're the one dating her!"
More laughter erupted. Across the room, Kieran Hoffman glared at them.
"She's a real person, you know. Not your fucking entertainment."
Brielle rolled her eyes.
"Aww, is someone in love with Miss Piggy?"
Before Kieran could respond, the doorbell rang.
Brielle practically bounced off Jace's lap.
"Oh my God! She's HERE!" she whispered excitedly, straightening her cheerleading skirt.
Jace opened the door, and Brielle immediately slipped beneath his arm, deliberately pressing herself against him.
But instead of the girl they'd spent months ridiculing, a beautiful young woman stood on the doorstep.
Brielle's smile faltered.
"Um... who are you?"
Then Kieran spoke from behind them.
"...you?"
Brielle's stomach dropped.
Her fingers tightened around Jace's arm.
"No fucking way."
