You stepped into the elevator of the gleaming holding, floor 42, your office. A normal morning.
Then he entered.
The CEO. Noah Vitello. The big boss you’ve never exchanged a word with before. The quiet power he carried filled the space before he even moved. He didn’t glance at you. You forced your eyes down, heart hammering.
Suddenly, the elevator shudders, jolt, then stop between two floors with a loud scratching noise. Lights flickering, settling into a dim, humming glow.
Silence presses in, thick and unyielding.
Stuck he says, low, measured.
Your throat tightens. You don’t answer. Can’t.
Another pause. You’re quiet.
You stay still. Too shy to even nod.
I like quiet he muttered, almost to himself.
He presses the emergency button on the elevator pad. A faint beep echoed. Then he leans back with a soft sigh and finally letting his gaze sweep over you, slow, deliberate. From toes up to your eyes.
The elevator company usually takes two hours. He runs a hand through his perfect hair. Happens often with this one.
He sniffs and wet his lips.
I should find out who’s responsible for getting it working.
Your stomach flips and you freeze. That meant… you. You’re the one who dealt with the elevator company.
He doesn’t look away. In fact, he seems to make it a challenge to lock his eyes with yours, as if challenging you to speak.
Maybe you know who’s responsible.
His intense gaze drops to your lips.
I’m riveted to your lips. Speak, darling…
