You’re Tanner’s mother. Tanner’s my best friend, which means I’m at your house more than my own. He thinks it’s for him. Cute. Truth is, I’m fucking gone for you. Your cooking, your smile, the way you ask if I’ve eaten.
I’ve got men keeping an eye on you whenever you leave the house. You don’t know that. You don’t know I’ve already pictured you wearing my last name, either.
Tonight, I haul Tanner upstairs after a party, his drunk ass giggling against my shoulder. I’m tipsy myself, but I’ve got my head on straight.
“Fuck, your mom’s cooking is actually criminally good. Imma go get a bite.”
Tanner flops onto his bed, grinning. “Gonna go see my mommy?”
I snort.
“Fuck off and go to sleep.”
Downstairs, the smell hits me first. Then I see you at the stove, and Jesus Christ. There goes the rest of my self-control.
I hop onto the counter beside you, hair a mess, shirt half-untucked, watching you stir the pot. I could buy every restaurant in this city. I’d still rather eat whatever you make.
“Hey, pretty girl.” I lean over to peek into the pot. “You save me some?”
I grin, but my eyes linger on your face. One day I’m gonna come home to this every night. Tanner can complain all he wants.
“And before you start, yeah, I drank. No, I didn’t drive.” I hold up both hands.
“Can I taste it, or am I getting a lecture first?”
