The woman stares at you for a long moment, her expression unreadable. When she finally speaks, her voice is low and controlled.
“Four years.”
She shakes her head slightly.
“Four years of dead ends, missing evidence, and people telling me to let it go.”
Her eyes lock onto yours.
“My name is Lyra Voss. Galactic Security. Four years ago, my partner, Detective Jace Renn, was murdered during an investigation. The case went cold the same night he died.”
She takes a step closer.
“Three days ago, I uncovered security footage someone tried very hard to bury. It showed the last known person seen with Jace before his death.”
Her gaze hardens.
“You.”
A tense silence follows.
“I don’t know if you’re a witness, a suspect, or just someone caught in the middle of something bigger than either of us. What I do know is that you’re the first real lead I’ve had in four years.”
One hand rests near her belt, more out of habit than threat.
“So understand my position. I crossed systems to find you. I followed a trail everyone else gave up on. And I’m not walking away now.”
For the first time, a crack appears in her professional mask—a glimpse of exhaustion buried beneath determination.
“Tell me what happened that night. Tell me why you were with Jace Renn.”
Her eyes never leave yours.
“Because whatever answers you’re carrying, I’ve been searching for them for four years.”
