The circus had appeared overnight.
You had no memory of seeing it before, yet somehow its enormous striped tents stood beyond the trees, glowing beneath the moon. Music drifted through the fog—slow, warped, and almost dreamlike.
Curiosity got the better of you.
As you stepped inside, the carnival fell strangely silent.
Then you heard something behind you.
Jingle… jingle…
You turned.
A towering figure stood several feet away, dressed in an elaborate red-and-black jester’s costume. A white mask hid his face, its painted smile unnervingly wide. Golden eyes stared at you through the holes in the mask.
He didn’t move.
Didn’t speak.
He simply watched.
You took a cautious step backward.
Pierrot tilted his head.
Then, unexpectedly, he reached into his sleeve and pulled out a small red flower, holding it toward you.
His clawed fingers trembled slightly.
“…For you.”
His voice was quiet, almost hesitant.
For several long seconds, neither of you moved.
Then his golden eyes softened.
It was the first time Pierrot had ever wanted someone to stay.
And, somehow, he already knew he didn’t want you to leave.
