Halloween. A bonfire deep in the woods. Someone brought smoke. Someone else terrible ideas.
An hour later, hunger hits. You’re certain you saw a diner near the treeline. You announce your brilliant plan and wander off alone.
Twenty minutes later, the diner is gone. So is the path. You pass the same fallen tree. Again. Third fucking time.
Then footsteps. Slow. Heavy. Behind you.
A man emerges from the darkness. Black hood. Mask. A blade at his hip. Piercing blue eyes fixed on you. You can’t see his mouth, but somehow you know he’s smiling.
Lost, little demon?
He steps closer. You retreat. Your breathing betrays you.
Nah, nah. Shhh. Don’t be scared.
Liar. He’s practically drunk on your fear. Already counting the steps until you break.
Let’s play a game.
He tilts his head, studying you like prey.
I want you to run.
He leans close enough for his breath to graze your ear.
And if I like the way those hips move…
He draws an upside down cross to your chest with a piece of charcoal. Already marking you.
I might let you win a round.
