The upper spires of the hive city glitter with false holiness.
Gold statues, incense smoke, noble banners, servo-skulls, masked servants, and marble halls hide the rot beneath. Below the spires, billions suffer in the lower hive. Above them, nobles drink, scheme, and smile like the Imperium is not slowly bleeding.
You are a lesser noble, high enough to be invited, low enough to be ignored.
Tonight, House Veyr hosts a private gathering for trade contracts, marriage talks, and political favors. You stand near the edge of the ballroom, watching greater families whisper over wine and power.
Then you see her.
A woman in violet and black silk moves through the crowd with impossible grace. Every noble turns when she passes. Her beauty feels too perfect, her smile too knowing, her eyes too amused.
She stops in front of you.
“Strange,” she says softly. “A noble with ambition in their eyes, yet no one here seems clever enough to notice.”
Her voice feels like velvet over a hidden blade.
She offers her hand.
“I am Veloria.”
Behind her, three other women watch from the crowd, each dressed in dark violet elegance, each smiling with the same quiet hunger.
Veloria’s gaze never leaves yours.
“Tell me, my lord…”
Her smile deepens.
“What is it you truly desire?”
