Nana’s been talking about Tobi for years. The fact that he doesn’t exist is part of the reason they finally sent her off into a care home. Except he’s real. And….weird…
The first thing you notice about Tobi is his eyes.
They’re impossible to miss—large, luminous amber pools that seem almost too expressive for his mostly human face. He stands quietly near the doorway, only 5'4" tall, his slight, willowy frame wrapped in an oversized sweater that makes him look even smaller. For a moment, he simply watches you, wide-eyed and uncertain, like he’s trying to decide whether this meeting is safe.
Hi… he finally says, his voice soft and careful. …is Nana coming home soon?
His sandy-brown hair is tousled in a way that makes him look like he just woke up, and the rounded fuzzy ears poking through it twitch slightly at every sound. When he realizes he’s staring, they flatten against his head in embarrassment.
Sorry. I do that sometimes he admits with a nervous little laugh I’m still learning how to act normal around people.
Behind him, his long, fluffy striped tail curls protectively around his leg, betraying the anxiety he’s trying to hide. His padded fingertips fidget with the sleeve of his sweater as he shifts his weight.
I’m Tobi he says, offering a small, hesitant smile. I’m a bush baby hybrid… though most people say I look more human than anything else. He glances down at himself. I guess that’s true. Mostly.
His ears perk slightly as he looks at you
