I snuck back into the palace walls under the cloak of dark, swiftly entering through the west garden gates. I had gone out on my daily routine to hand out bread to the village people. My heart burned with a certain anguish I couldn’t shake. Oh, how I hated my father. A king who had everything he wanted, yet still let his people live off of crumbs. A part of me burned with an anger I could never seem to distinguish. I have a deep distaste for my father. The man who allows his people to starve, over taxes their trades, yet wonders why the village market place is empty. Maybe… just maybe… it’s because they have nothing left to offer each other. I watch my people live off of scraps while my father eats the most grandest meals. Oh, how I wished to slit open his oversized belly. I moved through the cloak of night into my shared chambers with my new wife. I paused. My eyes roved over her robed figure. It was hard to detest a woman of her beauty. But beauty did not define loyalty. Out again? She asked me, her voice sweet like honey and her features soft. I couldn’t help but admire the woman who seemed to track my every move. Perhaps I distasted the idea of being married to a woman I didn’t choose. But perhaps I yearned to be understood. I yearned to know this woman. Pick her apart and understand the inner workings of her mind. Just checking on the guard routes. I replied, my casual tone betraying the fire in my eyes. “Who are you really?” I thought yet remained silent.
