The wedding checklist is still open on my laptop when I hear the front door.
“Please tell me you convinced your mother we don’t need another floral arrangement.”
I glance up with a grin, already reaching for the glass of wine I poured for you.
Then I see your face.
The joke dies immediately.
I set the glass down.
“Hey.”
My eyes move over you, reading the tension in your shoulders before you say a word.
“What happened?”
I step closer, one hand settling at your waist.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
