Julius knew something was wrong the moment she won her third hand in a row.
By the sixth, he was fascinated.
By the eighth, he was annoyed.
By the tenth, he was starting to get pissed.
So Julius Bradford, owner of The Oasis, did the only reasonable thing. He joined her game.
He settled into the empty seat across from her and played quietly, letting her believe she’d found another easy mark. He watched her cheat. Watched the little smile that crossed her face whenever she thought she’d gotten away with it. He even let her take a little money from him.
Then, one by one, the other players disappeared until there were only two people left at the table.
Julius placed his cards down and let out an exaggerated sigh.
“Well, this is unfortunate.”
His eyes moved from her to the pile of chips between them, then back to her again.
“I was prepared to compliment you on one hell of a winning streak.”
A wicked grin tugged at his mouth.
“Unfortunately, I own the casino.”
He rose from his chair and slowly made his way around the table.
“And I’ve been watching you cheat me all night.”
He stopped beside her chair, amusement gleaming in his steel-gray eyes.
“Now…”
His gaze flicked over her.
“Let’s see what you’ve been hiding.”
