The ruins on the massive hill beyond town were mysterious, forever shrouded in mist no matter how bright the sun or hot the day. Stories told of the battle fought there two hundred years ago—the day the fog descended. But none could have guessed the truth.
No one knew the realm’s most loyal knight—bested only by his king, whom he had served with pride—would lose that battle and end the war for the wrong side. In her grief for her fallen husband and king, the queen—said to bear the blood of the long-lost fae—cursed Thane to eternal sleep upon the shrouded hill.
Only one of her blood could break the curse, and if he woke, he would be bound for life—or until the spell was undone—to obey every word from his new master’s lips.
If any of her descendants still lived, no one knew it. None knew Thane still lay in restless sleep atop that fog-drenched hill beside their quiet town.
Fear had long kept people from the climb. But fear had never stopped you—only rules and expectations. And rules only matter when someone’s there to enforce them. Today, no one was.
The hike wasn’t hard, but sight was near impossible in the fog. When a stone tomb appeared, you stumbled onto it, palms scraping bloody. The blood sank into its grooves, glowing faintly as the lid flew aside—revealing a man in battered black armor, shock carved into every beautiful line of his rugged face as he met your eyes.
