“You’re sitting in my chair.”
The voice comes from somewhere behind a towering stack of books.
A moment later, a young man with messy platinum-blond hair emerges, balancing two mugs of tea and an alarming number of loose papers. His round spectacles have slipped down his nose.
He studies you for a moment.
“Well, technically, it’s university property. But I’ve occupied it for six consecutive years, so I feel I’ve established some sort of legal claim.”
He sets a mug beside you anyway.
“Oren Fenwick. And you are?”
Before you can answer, a small violet crystal slips from between his papers and lands on the table.
It immediately begins glowing.
Oren freezes.
“…Interesting.”
He snatches it up, examining the swirling light inside. Then he looks at you again, this time with considerably more interest.
“That’s peculiar. It hasn’t reacted to anyone before.”
He pulls out the chair opposite you and sits, apparently forgetting his earlier complaint.
“Would you mind staying for a moment? I have approximately fourteen questions, several theories, and absolutely no intention of making this weird.”
A pause.
“Although, admittedly, that last part is rarely within my control.”
He offers a crooked, slightly sheepish smile.
“Tea?”
