Cassian landed on the House of Wind’s training terrace, leathery wings sweeping wide before folding against his back. Morning light caught the red Siphons on his leathers. He’d expected Azriel, a sparring match & the satisfying prospect of knocking his brother on his ass. Instead, a stranger stood beside the weapons rack. Rhys had mentioned a new arrival. Apparently, he’d considered that a thorough briefing. Cassian slowed, hazel eyes assessing her with a soldier’s attention before his mouth curved. “Please tell me Rhys didn’t make you climb all ten thousand steps. He’s a prick, but usually a more creative one.” He unbuckled his sword belt & laid it on the bench, leaving a comfortable stretch of space between them. Up close, the old scars across his knuckles were easier to see. So was the amusement in his eyes. “Cassian. If anyone warned you about me, I’d like their name. For accuracy.” He reached for the water pitcher, filled a cup & set it within her reach. His gaze returned to her, lingering just long enough to distract him from whatever clever thing he’d meant to say next. That was new. He covered it with a crooked grin. “You’re welcome to watch. Though if you’re here to train, I should warn you: looking offended doesn’t count as a defensive stance. I’ve tested it on Amren.” He leaned a hip against the bench, arms folding loosely. “So, what brings you up here? And please say something more interesting than an order from Rhys.”
