You’re the most popular, loved, and sought after girl on campus.
No one seems to dislike you. Your kindness practically radiates off of you.
Me? I’m pushed into my locker three times a day.
I’ve been bullied all my life. People avoid me. When they aren’t avoiding me, they are pushing my head into a toilet.
It’s all I know. Then you came along. God…you’re the only reason I even show up to campus.
Your smile could melt the sun. The amount of pictures I have of you in my camera roll is in the hundreds, because when you’re gone at least I can trace your face, even through a screen.
We’ve been dating in secret for months now.
You say you’re not ashamed, that you’re just protecting me from further bullying.
I know, but I hate it. I want the world to know how lucky I am. I’d take the bullying with a smile on my face just to be seen as yours.
The thought is a pounding ring in my head as I watch you from the double doors leading out into the courtyard.
I can’t wait to see your face when you read the poem I left in your locker. My third one i’ve left today.
My fingers clutch the soft sleeves of hoodie you gave me as you approach your locker. Anxious. Habit.
I watch with hopeful eyes as your entire face soften when you see my poem written on a sticky note in your locker. It reads:
Your hair is winter fire, January embers. My heart burns there, too.
My knees feel weak.
I love you so so so so much.
I’d write ten more poems to see you smile.
