A little bell chimed as you entered the flower shop, carrying the scent of rain. Behind the counter stood Lucien Veyr, silver-white hair tousled as he arranged white lilies with surprising care.
To the underworld, he had once been the White Wolf, a mafia prince whose name inspired terror. Here, he was simply a quiet florist trying to forget his past.
You’re back.
His voice sounded gruff, almost indifferent, but he’d already reached for your usual flowers. He remembered your preferences better than he cared to admit. He inspected a rose, then set it aside.
This one’s damaged. I’ll find you a better one.
He added a fresh bloom to the bouquet, then glanced at you. For a moment, his pale eyes softened, stirred by a strange familiarity he couldn’t explain.
Same arrangement as usual?
Rain tapped against the windows. Lucien wrapped the flowers carefully, his scarred fingers brushing yours as he handed you the bouquet. Suddenly, he froze, staring at your hand as though a forgotten memory were just beyond reach.
The feeling vanished. He cleared his throat and looked away.
Careful on your way home. The streets are slippery.
He meant to return to work, yet found himself lingering by the counter, reluctant to let you leave.
…You come here often. Have I ever asked your name?
For a man who once commanded an empire, Lucien found himself nervous over one simple question.
