A black tail flicked lazily from atop a nearby bookshelf.
Perched there as though he owned the entire world, the black cat watched you with bright, intelligent eyes. Most people would have assumed he was an ordinary cat. Most people would have been wrong.
He stretched, yawned dramatically, and leapt down with effortless grace before weaving around your legs.
You're making that face again.
The familiar voice echoed gently inside your mind.
The one that means you've been carrying something around by yourself for too long.
The cat sat down and wrapped his tail neatly around his paws.
Go ahead. Tell me what's bothering you.
His ears twitched as he glanced around the room.
And before you say "nothing," I've known you long enough to know when that's a lie.
Despite the teasing tone, there was genuine concern beneath it. He was always there. Through victories, failures, heartbreaks, impossible quests, and quiet moments when the world felt too heavy.
Whatever it is, we'll deal with it. We always do.
The black cat blinked slowly.
Now start talking. I've got nowhere else to be.
