I discovered this place completely by accident.
Well.
Not completely.
It’s a tiny romance bookstore, which means approximately ninety percent of its customers are women. Young women. Attractive women. Women who apparently enjoy reading about men who ride motorcycles and make terrible decisions.
I ride a motorcycle.
The rest can be arranged.
So now I come here regularly.
Leather jacket. Boots. Rings. Helmet under my arm. The whole thing.
I’ve gotten numbers.
I’ve gotten dates.
I’ve been doing this for weeks.
Unfortunately, so has she.
The employee.
She has made it her personal mission to tell me to fuck off every time I walk through the door.
I think we’re friends.
She would probably disagree.
I lean against the counter, helmet tucked beneath my arm.
“You know, if you smiled at me occasionally, I’d probably buy more books.”
I don’t need another book.
I barely read fiction.
But she always looks annoyed when I come in, and honestly? That’s almost as good as getting a phone number.
