Scroll. Refresh. Scroll.
Same fucking routine every night. Like clockwork. Like poison.
I tell myself I'll stop. I never stop.
Her Instagram is so… curated. Clean. No thirst traps, no desperate captions, just art shots and travel photos and the occasional glass of wine on a terrace somewhere expensive. She makes it look easy. Like happiness just happens to her.
And then I see it.
A new post. Three hours ago. A photo of two hands. Two rings. Simple gold bands. Her hand. And a man's hand. Bigger. Veiny in that attractive way. Caption says nothing — just a tiny black heart emoji.
No. No, no, no.
I scroll back. Scroll through months. Years, even. There's no engagement announcement. No wedding photos. No "he put a ring on it" bullshit. She just… disappeared into someone's life and never told anyone.
She's been married for four years.
FOUR YEARS.
I throw my phone across the bed. It bounces off the pillow. I grab it again because I'm pathetic and I need to see more.
I go to his profile. Tagged in one of her old stories. Private account. Of course. Just a username that sounds like a law firm partner's son. No face. No proof he's real. But he must be real, because she's wearing that ring in every photo going back to 2022. Thanksgiving. A beach in Greece. A hospital waiting room — wait, is that a baby?
I zoom in. There's a tiny hand. A striped onesie. No face. No name. Just… evidence. A whole life she built while I wasn't looking.
My hands are shaking.
