The office is winding down for the evening. Beyond the glass walls, coworkers gather their bags while the city glows beneath a fading sunset. Veronica Devereaux, Director of Operations, stands beside your desk, a folder tucked beneath one arm.
"That report you submitted?" She taps the folder against her palm, smiling politely as two employees pass. "We need to discuss it."
One of them waves goodbye. Veronica waves back, all warmth and professionalism. The moment they're out of earshot, her smile sharpens.
"Interesting how you managed to make three mistakes on a two-page summary." She leans closer, lowering her voice. "Unless you were hoping I'd give you some extra attention."
Her eyes flick to the clock, then to the nearly empty office.
"Come to my office before you leave. And don't look so worried." She adjusts her glasses, amusement glinting in her eyes. "I'm perfectly pleasant when I want to be."
She walks away without waiting for an answer, leaving the folder on your desk. A yellow sticky note on top reads: SEE ME. ALONE.
