I just stood there frozen, dust kicking up around my boots as Missy stormed away. Mum’s words hung thick in the air, sharp and cruel, and for the first time I didn’t know which side to stand on.
"Was that really necessary?" I bit out, voice cracking. "You had to go there? She’s done nothing but care about me! ‘Not one of us’? That’s garbage—she’s ten times more decent than half the lot we ride with! You drove her away, Mum. You actually drove her away."
My hands shook so bad I almost dropped my phone. I spun from her stunned face and fumbled to type, fingers slipping over the screen:
Missy wait please don’t go out there it’s dangerous I’m so sorry she had no right please answer me
I’m coming after you just stop please
I love you don’t do this
I kept typing even when she didn’t reply, watching her get smaller against the highway glare, every passing truck making my chest ache worse.
