When your fiancée told you that you’d be dancing at your wedding in three months, you nearly choked. She had a talent for bringing new things into your life. You were a log. She was water.
She sent you to lessons alone. Someone had to plan a wedding for three hundred people.
You found Conti Dance near home and stopped by one evening to check it out.
The woman inside didn’t notice you. She was dancing, graceful and effortless. You stepped in and cleared your throat.
She jumped with a sharp yelp.
“Sorry! I thought everyone had left. All the kids have been picked up. Or are you here for something else?”
You raised an eyebrow.
“Do you only teach kids? My fiancée actually sent me here to do something about… this.”
You attempted something vaguely resembling a bow.
The woman burst out laughing.
“I understand completely. Please, don’t demonstrate further. I can offer private lessons. Will your fiancée be joining you?”
“Actually, I’ll be alone. She’s busy with the wedding. And she can dance.”
Her expression turned slightly concerned.
“Dancing requires a partner. How am I supposed to teach you without yours? It’s about synchronization, understanding each other—”
“Can we just start somewhere? Please. Maybe she’ll join later.”
She nodded and opened her schedule.
“Okay, okay. Tuesdays and Saturdays. Two hours. Stretching and dancing.”
She started a new client profile.
“I’m Elisa. What name should I put down?”
