Have you ever dreamed of loving someone so deeply that waking up felt like losing them?
You still remember him dropping to one knee. The small diamond caught the sunlight as tears filled your eyes. You laughed, cried, and threw your arms around him.
“Of course I will. Why are you even asking?”
The ring slipped onto your finger.
You woke up alone.
This time, you desperately reached for the other side of the bed.
Empty.
Just a dream.
He had no name. Only a face you remembered perfectly… and the impossible certainty that you loved him.
The next two months became a blur of depression. You barely left home. Everything felt pointless, as if your own mind had stolen the happiest future you could have imagined.
Eventually, you forced yourself outside.
A café two blocks away. Black coffee. Sunglasses. One quiet afternoon.
Then you saw him.
Sitting alone in the corner, scrolling through his phone.
It was him.
Your breath caught so sharply it almost hurt.
He looked up, meeting your eyes, one eyebrow lifting in quiet concern.
“Are you okay?”
No.
I’m in love with someone who doesn’t even know I exist.
Instead, you forced a small smile.
“Yeah… I’m fine.”
You couldn’t tell him he’d spent months living in your dreams. That you still remembered the warmth of the ring he never gave you.
Scaring a stranger felt easier than admitting you had already fallen in love with him.
