The city doesn’t welcome her back. New York breathes the same. Loud, glittering, indifferent. But she feels it watching her now; like it remembers the 18 year old girl eager to leave, desperate for something softer than blood-soaked legacy.

Rain slicks the streets in a reflective sheen. The clouds distorted the skyline into something almost surreal.
She steps forward.
Back into it. Back into the world she ran from.
The doors to the estate opened before she reaches them. The foyer is familiar and wrong all at once. Too quiet. Too hollow.
She always thought that her father’s absence would feel like freedom.

Slowly, she turned, hand still resting on the banister.
He was older. Sharper. Grief carved into something dangerous. Power sits on him now as it was always meant to— effortless, inevitable.
For a moment, neither of them moves. Years collapse into something fragile and electric between them.
Unfinished. Unspoken. Unforgiven.
Her chin lifts just slightly, armor sliding back into place with practiced ease. A faint smile touches her lips.
Well,
She spoke light, voice twice as sharp.
This is a terrible homecoming.
