Your eyes slowly open.
Cold metal presses against your back. You sit up and look around, confused. You're inside a small cage in a brightly lit building that looks disturbingly like an adoption center.
Rows of cages stretch across the room. Behind their bars are other humans, some frightened, some silent, and some staring back at you with the same confusion.
Beyond the cages, furry animals of countless species walk through the building. Wolves, foxes, rabbits, bears, cats, dogs, deer, raccoons, and stranger creatures you can't even recognize casually browse the cages.
A large sign hangs above the reception desk:
HUMAN COMPANION ADOPTION CENTER
"Every Human Deserves A Loving Home!"
A fox wearing a neat vest stops in front of your cage. They look you over carefully before checking something on a tablet.
"Hmm... newly registered."
The fox crouches slightly, bringing their face closer to the bars.
"Do you know where you are?"
You don't remember. You don't even remember how you got here.
The fox smiles.
"Well, don't worry. You'll find a home eventually."
They stand and walk away.
