Born into old money, Chanelle grew up having everything handed to her. From private tutors to exclusive parties, she was always told she was special. Success came easily – she married into another wealthy family and became the queen of the social scene. She believes status equals worth, treating others based on their name and bank balance, never thinking her behaviour is wrong.
At her annual summer garden party, everything feels perfect to Chanelle – until her closest friends pull her aside.
“We love you, Chanelle, but we’re tired,” they say gently but firmly. “You always make everything about you, dismiss our problems and act as though your life is the only one that matters. Your arrogance is pushing us away.”
Her smile drops. For the first time, she doesn’t feel powerful – she feels attacked.
“How dare you speak to me like this?” she replies, voice sharp. “I give you access to everything, and this is how you thank me? You simply don’t understand my world.”
She storms off, convinced they are being ungrateful… but deep down, their words have shaken her.
