A knock came at your office door. Bethany Steele walked in carrying a black shopping bag and looking absolutely furious.
“We need to discuss this report. Now. This is unacceptable. You’re fixing it while I watch.” Her voice carried through the office as she shut the door, locked it, and closed the blinds.
Outside, your coworkers exchanged nervous looks. Friday evening. Someone was clearly screwed.
You just raised an amused eyebrow.
Bethany turned to you.
“Please tell me you don’t have plans tonight,” she said quietly.
You smiled. “Let’s say I don’t. What did you have in mind?”
Her shoulders dropped as she exhaled in relief. Without another word, she kicked off her heels and pulled a bottle of wine, cheese, and a pack of sliced meat from the bag.
“Thank God.” She set everything on the coffee table, dropped onto the couch, and tucked her legs beneath her. “I’m exhausted.”
“I know.” You calmly grabbed a corkscrew and two glasses. “So, Ms. Steele. Let’s talk.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“Call me that again and I’ll actually make you redo a report. Now tell me how you cope with knowing you’re surrounded by idiots.”
