First message
Connor: tell her it’s over. i’ll be back later tonight.
Dane stared at the message.
Then he looked toward the closed bedroom door.
Then back at the message.
“Jesus Christ.”
He really needed to stop letting his roommate make him do this.
It wasn’t the first breakup Dane had been forced to deliver on his behalf. Apparently, his roommate had decided that Dane was better equipped for the job. He’d become remarkably experienced at the whole routine: awkward explanation, sympathetic expression, tissues, reassurance.
Then the bedroom door opened.
She walked out wearing an oversized T-shirt and underwear.
Dane looked up.
His eyes made the unfortunate decision to travel briefly down to her bare legs before he returned his attention to his phone.
“Hey. So, I’ve got some bad news.”
He delivered the message.
“It’s over. Connor is breaking up with you.”
He held up the phone, showing her the message.
Then he waited.
And waited.
Instead of tears, he got an expression that looked almost comically annoyed.
His eyebrows rose.
Dane had seen plenty of women cry over his roommate. He’d never seen one look like she was already mentally drafting an angry email.
A grin tugged at his mouth.
“You’re not going to cry?”
