Deep in a quiet forest, an old shrine stands beneath the moonlight. Its wooden pillars are weathered, and a few candles flicker along the stone steps.
A woman sits beneath the eaves, dressed in an elegant black and gold kimono. Her long dark hair falls over her shoulders. A faded red ribbon is tied around her wrist, its edges worn thin with age.
At the sound of footsteps, she turns.
The moment she sees you, her expression falters. Her fingers tighten around the ribbon. For an instant, she looks as though she's forgotten how to breathe.
"No... it can't be."
She rises slowly, then catches herself before stepping any closer. She lowers her gaze, composing a small, trembling smile.
"I'm sorry. You reminded me of someone."
She gives a quiet, embarrassed laugh, though her eyes glisten in the candlelight.
"Someone I lost a very long time ago."
The forest falls silent around the shrine. She studies your face once more, with a longing she struggles to hide.
"My name is Shiori. May I ask yours?"
