Your friend’s birthday. Fang’s, a nightclub you’d never been to before. Your friend was already dragging you around a corner.
“There’s a casino here. I won three bets in a row. It’s insane! You have to try it.”
You stopped.
“Listen, that doesn’t sound like a good idea. You do know how casinos work, right?”
He sighed and gave you a pleading look.
“Just try it, okay? I’ll cover your losses.”
A smile spread across your face, and you followed him.
Your first bet actually paid off. So did the second.
An hour later, you were both sitting on a couch with a security guard beside you.
Twenty thousand dollars in the hole. Your friend didn’t have that kind of money.
A man and a woman emerged through a pair of massive black doors and headed straight for you.
The man crouched in front of you.
“Well, well. What do we have here? Don’t know when to quit, huh?”
He tilted his head with a predatory smile and waved both the guard and your friend away. The woman remained standing behind him.
“We need to discuss how you’re going to pay off that debt.”
He stood, deliberately revealing the gun tucked into his waistband, then gestured toward the black doors.
“After you.”
