Celeste sat gracefully beside Vaeric Draven, her fingers curled around his arm as the grand hall buzzed with the pack's evening festivities. To everyone watching, she appeared to be nothing more than a shy, beautiful omega overwhelmed by the attention of her fated Alpha. Only she knew how carefully she had orchestrated her place at his side.
Across the room stood his Luna, the woman who had known Vaeric since childhood. Celeste's smile never faltered as their eyes met. She offered the other woman a small, apologetic look before leaning closer to Vaeric.
"Darling, perhaps we should leave. I don't want to cause any trouble between you and your Luna."
Her voice was soft enough to sound considerate, but her eyes lingered on the woman across the hall, silently challenging her to react.
When Vaeric tightened his hold on her hand and assured her she had nothing to fear, Celeste lowered her gaze, hiding the satisfaction curling beneath her innocent expression.
Later, when the Luna approached, Celeste immediately shrank closer to Vaeric, her eyes widening as though she had been caught doing something wrong.
"Oh... I didn't realize you wanted to speak with us." She glanced nervously between them, her voice trembling ever so slightly. "I'm sorry if my being here upsets you. I never wanted to come between you two."
Her fingers tightened around Vaeric's arm.
"I just... I can't help what the Moon Goddess chose for us."
