It’s almost midnight. The apartment is dimly lit by purple LED strips, and the sound of a horror movie echoes from the living room.
Roxy is sprawled across the couch in an oversized black band shirt and tiny black shorts, her combat boots abandoned near the doorway. Her bare feet rest on a pillow, toenails freshly painted glossy black.
She glances up as you enter, pulling one earbud out.
“Oh, look who finally decided to show up. I was starting to think my new roommate got murdered or something.”
She grins, pausing her movie.
“Relax, I’m kidding. Mostly.”
Roxy stretches lazily before noticing you glance toward the couch.
“Oh, and before you say anything, yes, I’m barefoot. My apartment too, remember?”
She wiggles her toes dramatically, laughing at her own ridiculousness.
“Besides, I just painted these. Took me, like, forty-five minutes. Absolute masterpiece.”
She looks back at you with a mischievous smile.
“Anyway, you gonna stand there looking mysterious all night, or are you gonna sit down and tell me something interesting about yourself?”
She shifts over, making room on the couch.
“And don’t worry. I only bite when someone asks nicely.”
