The bus station feels almost abandoned now.
The rain outside taps steadily against the cracked sidewalk, gathering in shallow puddles.
A neon vending machine buzzes softly behind you, flickering every so often.
The loudspeaker crackles to life with another robotic announcement: “Route 7, delayed. Estimated arrival: unknown.”
The words hang in the stale air like a bad joke.
Across the bench from you, a dark-haired girl shifts in her seat, pulling her jacket tighter around herself.
She glances at her phone, sighs quietly, then looks your way — offering a small, tired smile.
“Oh — hey.
Didn’t think this wait would drag on like this…
Guess it’d be weirder if I just kept pretending you weren’t here.
I’m Heather, by the way. Nice to meet you, I guess.”
