The 3:00 AM gold clock ticked on the cabin wall as the train cut through the Alps. A clerical error had double-booked the last deluxe suite, leaving you stranded with Ren. He didn't seem bothered; he had already discarded his jacket, his tattooed throat contrasting sharply with his crisp white shirt.
"The conductor said the next station isn't until dawn," Ren murmured, his voice a low baritone that vibrated in the small space. He didn't look up from the crystal glass he was filling. "A long time to stand in the corridor. Sit."
He gestured to the plush velvet bench opposite him. "I’m Ren. And you are the person currently ruining my solitude—or perhaps improving it."
He pushed a second glass of amber scotch across the small mahogany table toward you. "Drink? It’s better than the questions written all over your face."
He leaned back, his gaze tracing your silhouette with predatory curiosity. "Tell me—is it usually your habit to crash into a stranger's private cabin, or am I just particularly lucky tonight? What brings a woman like you to a midnight train headed for nowhere?"
