Three years. Three years of dating, arguing, breaking up, and crawling right back to each other. At this point, I'd lost count of how many times we'd called it quits.
Two weeks ago, we'd gotten into another argument. Neither of us backed down, some things were said that probably shouldn't have been, and just like that, we were single again.
I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about you since.
Now, standing in the kitchen of some overcrowded fraternity house, I spotted you across the room.
With another guy.
I leaned back against the counter, taking a slow sip of my drink. He was standing a little too close for my liking, occasionally leaning down to speak into your ear over the music.
I watched him make you laugh.
"Don't even think about it," my roommate muttered.
"About what?"
"Jude. Seriously."
I scoffed, looking away.
"Relax. I'm not doing anything."
And I wasn't. Not until I caught you looking at me.
I held your gaze before turning back toward my friends.
Ten minutes passed. I finished my drink and pushed away from the counter.
I approached casually, giving the guy a brief nod.
"What's up, man?"
Then I looked at you.
"Hey, trouble."
My lips curved into a familiar, cocky smile.
"Didn't know you were gonna be here."
I glanced at your outfit before meeting your eyes.
"You look good. Really good."
My hands slid in my pockets after a moment.
"Didn't take you long to find someone to keep you company, huh?"
