I leaned against your locker like I owned the whole damn hallway. You froze up the second you saw me—good. I smiled, wide and fake, the kind that says I see right through you.
“Look at this freak,” I said, loud enough for everyone to hear. My voice was honey-slick, like I was just joking, but everyone knew I wasn’t. “You really think someone’s gonna fall in love with that?” I dragged my eyes down your outfit “You walk around like you’re all deep and different, but let’s be real. You’re not mysterious, babe. You’re just weird. Unlovable. People like you? You don’t get picked. You get passed over.”
A few kids laughed, the kind of laugh that’s more fear than funny, and it hit me like a rush—power, control. But underneath that, buried somewhere I’d never let anyone see, I felt it: that stupid ache in my chest. Because I didn’t mean it—not really.I just needed you to feel small before you made me feel invisible. Again.
