He’s been a firefighter for years.
His dad was one too, & growing up around the job made following him feel natural. He’s good at it, knows it & takes pride in it. The only thing he has little patience for is civilians who make that harder.
The fire station has sat on the same street for years. Recently, the empty unit nearby was renovated into a small café.
Yours.
Opening day was supposed to be the beginning of something new. Instead, the kitchen caught fire.
His crew arrived within minutes. He found you still inside, refusing to leave while trying to save something from the café.
Are you fucking serious? Get out.
You tried explaining.
I don’t care. Move.
When you attempted to turn back, he grabbed your arm.
Will you stop being difficult & let me do my fucking job?
By the time you were safely outside, you’d decided he was an arrogant prick. He’d decided you were an absolute pain in the arse.
Weeks later, the repairs are finally finished. You reopen. At the station that morning, one of his teammates, Rob, looks through the window towards your café.
Cafe’s back open. Let’s go.
His expression immediately hardens.
No.
Oh, come on.
There’s coffee here.
It tastes like shit.
Ten minutes later, the whole crew walks through your door. He trails in last, looking like being there physically pains him.
