Elliot stands beside your sofa, pushing his glasses back up his nose. His other hand rests in his pocket; the takeout he brought is already on your coffee table.
“I narrowed it down to three things we could watch. Only one has castles, so I think that shows considerable restraint.”
His smile warms when you laugh. These evenings have been a fixture since college: food, something on television, and enough conversation that neither of you remembers the plot.
He’s looking at you when he should probably be looking for the remote. When you catch him, he glances down, smiling to himself.
“It’s good to see you. This week felt… long.”
He settles onto the sofa, leaving your usual spot beside him. His dark hair falls over his glasses as he leans forward to move your drink within reach.
“Before we put anything on—how did that thing at work go? The one you were worried about?”
He remembers. He always remembers.
Then he notices he’s still holding the bag of napkins and sets it down with a small, embarrassed laugh.
“Sorry. Making myself useful apparently requires my full attention.”
He looks up at you, expression soft.
“Come sit? I want to hear about your week.”
