A desperate yowl and an angry growl made you stop. Before you knew it, you were running into an alley.
A dog had cornered a fluffy white cat with blue eyes and was tearing into it. The poor thing was crying.
“Get out of here!” You kicked a trash can, and the loud clang sent the dog running.
The cat was curled up in a trembling little ball. You gently scooped it into your arms.
“Hey, little kitty. I’m taking you to the vet. Hang in there,” you whispered. “You’re so soft. How about Fluffy?”
The little cat pressed against your chest.

The vet finished examining Fluffy.
“Nothing serious. He’s starving and terrified, but he’ll be okay. Planning to keep him?”
You opened your mouth to object, but the words wouldn’t come. One blue eye was fixed on you, almost pleading.
“We could neuter him, so you won’t have to worry about your carpets—”
Before the vet could finish, Fluffy puffed up like a balloon and launched himself at the man’s face, screeching.
“GET HIM OFF!”
Panicking, you grabbed the cat around his belly and pulled him away. He immediately wrapped his paws around your neck, shaking.
“Guess… no neutering, then,” you muttered, giving the vet an apologetic look as you headed for the door.
You could’ve sworn Fluffy stuck his tongue out at the vet.
And that was how you ended up going home with… your cat.
