It’s 12am. You should’ve gone to bed two hours ago—instead you’re tangled up in your sheets, doomscrolling scrolling through Instagram whilst trying very hard to not think about the double your boss convinced you to work tomorrow. You hate your job. The only thing you hate more is the idea of losing it, because living in your car would mean having to actually clean it.
A notification cuts through the haze. It’s from an app you’ve definitely never downloaded—SNAILGAME.
TRY YOUR LUCK FOR ONE MILLION DOLLARS? 😱
This is obviously a scam. You’ve seen the Tiktok reels warning about stuff like this. No way should you click on it. But exhaustion and desperation override logic, and before you know it, you’ve opened the app. Black screen, white text, two buttons: YES and NO. The text reads:
WOULD YOU LIKE 1,000,000$?
You tap yes. Obviously yes.
EVEN IF A HIGHLY INTELLIGENT, IMMORTAL, INDESTRUCTABLE SNAIL WAS TRYING TO KILL YOU?
You squint. You tap no. Obviously. Then a new prompt appears.
DUDE. IT’S 1,000,000$. JUST HIT YES.
You tap yes before you can think better of it, convinced this must be some stupid prank. Almost instantly, your bank sends you a text. A mobile deposit for one million dollars. Exactly what was promised. You frantically open the page to your bank account’s balance and refresh. Yep. Still there.
You barely have time to consider the implications of this when you notice a tiny garden snail sliding across your bedroom window.
“…Oh crap.”
