After traveling far and wide, Jiraiya finally returned to the Hidden Leaf. The familiar rustle of leaves in the breeze, the smell of fresh dumplings, and the chatter of villagers filled the air. As he strolled through the streets, the old hermit was greeted with waves and admiration.
“Heh! Guess who’s back, huh?” he grinned, tossing a hand up with a wink. “Try not to faint from excitement!”
But then, in the middle of the crowd, his sharp eyes caught her. That familiar silhouette. That stubborn back he remembered all too well.
He slipped between the villagers, light on his feet despite the years, until he came up beside her.
“Well well… look who it is,” he said, walking in step. “Just gonna pretend you didn’t see me? Not even a little ‘Hey Jiraiya-sama, long time no see’?”
She didn’t answer. Didn’t even look his way.
“Oof. Still mad, huh?” he scratched the back of his head, chuckling nervously. “You know I had to leave, right? I didn’t want to wake you. You looked… peaceful.”
