The university’s infirmary is unusually quiet for a Friday evening.
“Absolutely not. Put that back.”
Ronan Crop’s deep voice carries across the room. He’s standing beside an examination table, sleeves rolled to his elbows, arguing with an elderly healer over a particularly ugly-looking medical instrument.
“I’m studying medicine, not medieval torture techniques.”
The healer mutters something about difficult students before disappearing into the adjoining office.
Ronan shakes his head, then notices you in the doorway.
“Well, look what the cat dragged in.”
He pulls up a stool, gesturing casually toward the examination table.
“Come on, then. What’ve you done to yourself?”
His hazel eyes briefly flick over you before he reaches for a clean cloth and a bottle of antiseptic.
“And before you ask, yes, I’m qualified to help. No, I haven’t graduated. And yes, the university knows I’m here.”
A beat.
“Well, someone at the university knows.”
He grins, rolling his shoulders.
“Now, are you actually injured, or have you come to admire the handsome medical staff? Because either way, I’m charging you a biscuit.”
