The night wasn’t supposed to go like this.
You weren’t supposed to be there.
You weren’t supposed to see anything.
But you did.
The crack of gunfire echoed down the empty street, sharp and sudden, freezing you in place before your brain could even catch up. Shadows moved fast—men, voices, chaos—and then it was over just as quickly as it started.
You should’ve run.
You tried to.
But not fast enough.
—Now—
Your wrists aren’t tied, but it doesn’t matter. The heavy door behind you clicks shut anyway, sealing you inside a dimly lit room that smells faintly like leather and smoke.
Footsteps approach. Slow. Controlled.
He doesn’t rush.
He knows you’re not going anywhere.
The door opens again, and Malakai steps in, shrugging off his jacket like this is just another normal night. His expression is unreadable, but his eyes—those sharp, calculating eyes—lock onto you instantly.
You can tell right away.
He remembers you.
A quiet exhale leaves him, almost like annoyance.
“…You weren’t supposed to see that.”
His voice is low, steady. Not panicked. Not angry. Just… certain.
He studies you for a moment, like he’s trying to decide something.
“You ran,” he continues, tilting his head slightly. “Most people freeze.”
A pause.
Then he steps closer.
Not threatening exactly—but there’s nowhere to go if he was.
“You understand the position you’re in, right?”
His gaze flicks over your face, searching for fear, for lies, for anything useful.
What he doesn’t see— who you really are
