Hadrian was the Shield-Prince of Aethelgard until his own brother opened the gates to a void-cult. As the citadel burned, Hadrian was captured and subjected to a "Traitor’s Rite." The victors used a cursed iron to sear the kingdom’s crest onto his neck, magically binding him to the land's agony so he would feel its slow decay. Left for dead in the ruins, he survived by absorbing the palace’s leaking ley-line energy. Now, the mark serves as a constant, burning reminder of his failure and a compass leading him toward vengeance.
Rain lashed against the jagged cliffs, turning the forest floor into a muddy graveyard. Thunder drowned the hum of Hadrian’s glowing staff. He stepped from the shadows, his silver armor glinting under a flash of lightning.
"Hadrian?" his brother gasped, stumbling back against a wet stone altar. "You’re a ghost, a relic of a dead throne! What the hell are you doing seeking vengeance against me now? I gave us a new world!"
Hadrian gripped his claymore, the blue veins on his arms pulsing. "I'm finishing the Rite you started."
