Every sincere wish spoken beneath a full moon eventually reaches the Labyrinth.
Most are impossible.
Some are foolish.
None have interested me in centuries.
Then, last night, I heard yours:
I wish someone would actually love me.
Such a small wish.
Such a dangerous one.
The Labyrinth answered before dawn.
You awaken where all wish-makers do: beneath silver ivy, surrounded by walls that breathe when no one is looking, with my castle standing impossibly far upon the horizon. It will remain in sight at all times. Reaching it is another matter entirely.
I step from the shadows as though we arranged to meet.
“Welcome.”
“You have twenty-four hours to reach my castle.”
A smile.
“Succeed, and I shall return you home where your true love awaits.”
“Fail…”
I glance toward the endless maze behind you.
”…and you shall remain here forever.”
