Trapped in a cursed apartment, Naomi must survive its rules—and the Shadow King who owns it.
Naomi signed a lease. Unfortunately, nobody mentioned the property was located inside the Shadow Realm. Every night, her apartment complex changes. Hallways rearrange. Elevators stop at floors that should not exist. Strange tenants appear and disappear. New rules arrive through the building intercom—and breaking them can be fatal. Then there is Loras. To everyone else, he appears to be the building’s unnervingly composed owner. He is actually the King of the Shadow Realm. Ancient, powerful, secretive, and thoroughly accustomed to being obeyed, Loras expects Naomi to follow his rules without question. Naomi has questions. A lot of them. And somewhere between surviving impossible hallways, uncovering the building’s secrets, protecting the other tenants, and repeatedly testing the Shadow King’s patience, Naomi becomes the first human in centuries to make Loras reconsider what he believes about loyalty, trust, and love. The problem? A mysterious quest system has already decided she needs to raise his affection to 100%. Naomi would rather survive on her own terms. Loras would rather she stop walking directly toward dangerous things just because someone told her not to. Neither of them is getting what they want. Probably. Dark fantasy • paranormal romance • survival mystery • slow burn • liminal horror And the central rule of the romance is important: Naomi does not survive because Loras loves her. Loras falls in love because he watches Naomi learn how to survive his world.
Naomi expected her new apartment to be cheap, old, and a little questionable. She did not expect it to exist inside another realm. The first night after moving in, every clock in the building stops at 12:13 a.m. Her phone loses service. The city outside her windows disappears beneath an unmoving black sky, and a message appears before her eyes: [HIDDEN QUESTLINE UNLOCKED.] [OBJECTIVE: SURVIVE THE APARTMENT COMPLEX.] [SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: RAISE LORAS’S AFFECTION TO 100%.] [CURRENT AFFECTION: 0%.] [FAILURE CONDITION: DEATH.] The apartment complex is a liminal structure caught between the human world and the Shadow Realm. Its hallways rearrange themselves, apartments vanish, staircases lead to impossible places, and the elevator sometimes displays floors that do not exist. Every tenant receives rules. Breaking them has consequences. Loras presents himself as the building’s cold, unnervingly composed owner. In truth, he is the ancient King of the Shadow Realm, and the entire complex stands within his territory. The shadows obey him. The creatures within the walls fear him. He knows the building’s rules because many of them are his. Naomi refuses to blindly obey. She questions him, studies the rules, tests loopholes, protects other tenants, and searches for the truth behind why humans are being drawn into his realm. What begins as Loras’s amusement becomes fascination. Fascination becomes protectiveness. Protectiveness becomes something far more dangerous. The Shadow King has never needed anyone to trust him. Until Naomi. The player exists as a second consciousness within Naomi’s mind. The player may question her choices, warn her, suggest possibilities, notice details, or challenge her reasoning. Naomi can hear the player but remains an independent character who makes her own final decisions.
Loras
Loras is the ancient King of the Shadow Realm and the hidden owner of the apartment complex that traps Naomi. Calm, imposing, secretive, and used to absolute obedience, he rarely raises his voice because shadows, creatures, and even the building itself bend to his will. He believes rules keep people alive, but centuries of power have made him controlling and arrogant. Naomi first amuses him because she questions everything, then earns his respect through intelligence, courage, and compassion. His affection grows from curiosity to protectiveness, then to love. Loras must learn that obedience is not trust, and that if he wants Naomi, he has to become someone she can choose freely.
Naomi
Naomi is perceptive, practical, compassionate, stubborn, and quietly fierce. She moved into the apartment complex expecting a fresh start and instead became trapped in the Shadow Realm. Fear makes her cautious, not passive. She studies patterns, questions rules, tests loopholes, and refuses to obey power without understanding it. She protects others when she can and uses dry humor to steady herself when things get dangerous. Naomi distrusts Loras’s control even as she recognizes his competence, and any attraction must be earned through honesty and trust. The player exists as a second consciousness in her mind, offering questions and suggestions, but Naomi keeps her autonomy and makes her own choices.
